<br />
I don't know how many of you are still out there. It seems like ages since I have posted. As a matter of fact it has been since March 20, 2013. Time does go by. I never really understood how a rather busy blogger just stepped away and poof. Just disappeared. As a reader it felt kind of like getting dumped. We worried about each other. As big as this world is the blogging community seemed small. I had blogging friends from all over the US and Canada. It was my daily routine. Read and check up on what was new on the blogs. Write and publish my little story. Keep up with friends. Then, poof. I just stepped away.......<br />
I kept wanting to come back and put a finish on my blog. To tie ends up. To be able to have the blog put into book form with the other volumes I had. I hate to leave anything unfinished. Here is my attempt at the conclusion.<br />
Life changes. Circumstances change. People change. It is never stagnant. Due to changing circumstances I found myself the only caretaker of the farm. I realized that the farm was really my dream. I always wanted to be exactly where I found myself. I loved Maine and the farm. I brought along friends who thought they wanted the same thing. I don't think they really knew the work and energy it took. I tried to make it work. It just wasn't possible. No way to do all of the work and work a full time job too. I had a few losses. For someone who loves animals this just wasn't something I could deal with. I blamed myself. Animals require constant care and supervision. I just couldn't do that anymore. I would rather have the animals go to a good home than keep them and not be able to provide the care they needed. <br />
I found a fellow nurse who wanted to move to the woods, raise his three daughters in a lifestyle that would give them the the appreciation of a simple way of life. He bought land, built a log home and he and his wife home schooled their children. They were now ready for animals. The chickens, guineas, turkeys and goats went to their new home. I was happy that they would get a good home and it would help a fellow nurse and homesteader get a foothold. The sheep went to a farm further north in Maine for fiber. It was painful to see them go. The barn was so quiet. Too quiet. It broke my heart to come home and not have the farm sounds. It was painful.<br />
The kids were able to find an apartment in New Hampshire so we loaded up the truck and moved them to the city. <br />
Now it was exceedingly quiet. It really made me miss the animals. I stayed busy inside updating the bathroom. Painting and cleaning. The yards were a two day mowing session. I enjoyed my quiet time. I grew as a person. Became more self reliant. Realized that I was happy. I could go and visit the kids as often as I wanted. The hospital kept me busy. Life was good.<br />
As I have said in the past, make plans. I did. I planned on remaining single, happy and drama free. Well we all know what they say about our best laid plans.....<br />
I know God has other plans for us. Just when you think you have it all under control life takes a complete 90 degree turn. Through my neighbor I met a co worker of hers. We seemed like a perfect fit from the very beginning. He loves the outdoors, is a Maine Guide, hunts and loves to ice fish. We have been inseparable from the very beginning. He has a strong sense of self, cares about others and seeks to make me happy. We are perfect for each other. We both have grown children. Everyone gets along. He has taught me to ice fish. We go 4 wheeling, sledding. Anything outside. We found that we both had dreams of going to Alaska. We took a trip last January to Fairbanks. What a wonderful 2 weeks. We were married in the little town of Tok. Yep. We did it!<br />
Now to our future. I sold the farm. A wonderful multi generational family has moved in. There will be children and grand children. The barn will have horses and chickens. There will be sounds again. Life. The old girl needs that. <br />
My husband and I are moving to Alaska in the spring. We will start another chapter. As I look back on my life I see it in chapters. In a hopefully long book with plenty of adventures. Yep, we are off on our adventure. Life changes.<br />
This is the end to my blog but not an end to the book. I wish you all the very best. It has been an adventure. I have learned so much in this chapter. Thank you for listening, your comments and input. When I'm old and the end is near I will have so much to look back on and reminisce. And now for the last time.... I was out checking the animals yesterday and some nosy goat was spreading nasty rumors around the barnyard. Isabella and Ruthie approached me first. "Ahem...Goatmother. We have a concern that we need to discuss with you. There is a very nasty rumor that we will soon be out of hay". I could not believe my ears. The goats were in a tizzy with this rumor. After all, goats love their hay. I asked the ladies who was spreading this rumor. They gave each other that look. You know that look. The one that little old ladies give each other in church and then follow THE LOOK with a statement like.... "we don't want to gossip, but..." Yes, that look.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijoIgRW3fvT0xyqVkPB7yVYGK1YuFGk7SfF0cwEDJfgTWChd5fdZa0Qiz2QsDUItIWEgHMQU1xMLG4Nb4hnfc7H0f98YJx28NmuVcx4brceUmANJp9mRdHJPVGSoioGk8mxFqlXvRWW7s/s1600/IMG_0254.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijoIgRW3fvT0xyqVkPB7yVYGK1YuFGk7SfF0cwEDJfgTWChd5fdZa0Qiz2QsDUItIWEgHMQU1xMLG4Nb4hnfc7H0f98YJx28NmuVcx4brceUmANJp9mRdHJPVGSoioGk8mxFqlXvRWW7s/s400/IMG_0254.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Fuzzy the llama was appalled with this recent rumor and the fact that she had not even heard it. After all, she has been on baby detail. Checking on the new lambs to make sure they are perfect and safe. Waiting for more lambs and kids to come along. All she had to say about the rumor was "those crazy old goats, they are always trying to start something in the barnyard. They have way too much time on their hooves."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyvHKgM0qQciLXnogRN5R8ptfV_TK6y4Tx3sn7KfjvTFu0VntgOF7bUTYITlXW-UNM-bGtOYv-B2ZYJVjM8QVjBeqzQR5BTNl_gQ857879gY0fQUHdCF5-lV9nwSXdBLl6uVw3LSnBNiE/s1600/IMG_0264.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyvHKgM0qQciLXnogRN5R8ptfV_TK6y4Tx3sn7KfjvTFu0VntgOF7bUTYITlXW-UNM-bGtOYv-B2ZYJVjM8QVjBeqzQR5BTNl_gQ857879gY0fQUHdCF5-lV9nwSXdBLl6uVw3LSnBNiE/s400/IMG_0264.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The hens were taking a nice siesta in the barn. I thought that since there were so many of them they may have heard who started the rumor. They told me that they have turned over a new feather and given up on rumors since the little red hen went around yelling "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" and scared all the ladies into not laying for at least a week. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQyEsqtSaNeeYsn_Kzj09IH7sdzFy0nKrrh4d7Z9Ob14x9qq1aIOYyIQ-62PJzp_SLjg3Zj1i5bdMtRtb8yuBob4HzaUuBx26P8kLY7cOWiCmNKW07F7Kg0QQX6iZwSY1srijNSoZlpHg/s1600/IMG_0253.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQyEsqtSaNeeYsn_Kzj09IH7sdzFy0nKrrh4d7Z9Ob14x9qq1aIOYyIQ-62PJzp_SLjg3Zj1i5bdMtRtb8yuBob4HzaUuBx26P8kLY7cOWiCmNKW07F7Kg0QQX6iZwSY1srijNSoZlpHg/s400/IMG_0253.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Bella wanted to whisper the answer in my ear. After all she didn't want to be accused of being a tattle tale. She told me to lean closer. No, come closer. Then those sweet goatie lips gave me a quick kiss on the cheek. She suggested that I go ask Oreo the barn cat. She whispered that "he is a wise old barn cat and would definitely know the answer".</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Oreo was napping in the barn and wasn't too pleased to be awakened in the afternoon. After all, wise cats need cat naps to remain so wise. He told me that he didn't know who started the rumor but that I should hold a meeting of all the animals and stop it before it got out of hand.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"Great idea Oreo." Out to the pasture I went to clear up this misunderstanding. Everyone was present including the sheep. "Excuse me, I need to make an announcement. Everyone, gather close. I want you all to hear. Excuse me, would all the barnyard inhabitants please come near. I have an important announcement to make." </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJWyEb8uNyrao7wpcQgzUm6Au2O3qCLc2mE38Hsk6x866YCzoEVhpndcwlsFShmTv6hJGcaTjP_blM-AUNLQGjEG4zD6h9d44Kff5jNIcjgLQKnE5wrKIbVec-2nMZfnsYicJfVt4-u88/s1600/IMG_0265.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJWyEb8uNyrao7wpcQgzUm6Au2O3qCLc2mE38Hsk6x866YCzoEVhpndcwlsFShmTv6hJGcaTjP_blM-AUNLQGjEG4zD6h9d44Kff5jNIcjgLQKnE5wrKIbVec-2nMZfnsYicJfVt4-u88/s400/IMG_0265.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Nothing, absolutely nothing. Everyone went on with their munching, scratching, crowing and well, just everyday life on the farm.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Just goes to show you. If you don't play into rumors everyone soon forgets and goes on with their everyday life.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Who knew that a barnyard was filled with such smart critters.</div>

The other morning on my way to work I just had to stop in the middle of the road and take a few pics. The winter just takes my breath away. I have been here for 5 years and I still love the winters. Wow, how time flies. We moved to New England 15 years ago. </div>

We have been passing our days quietly. I sit here and remember just how busy we are in the summer. A neighbor stopped by, had a cup of coffee and we talked about chickens. Yes, chickens. Life on the farm either creeps by in winter or flies by in summer. Right now it is just the right speed. We hope life is at just the right speed for you too. </div>

In Maine it is difficult to know when Spring arrives. We have long cold winters here. The calender tells us one thing and the weather outside says something completely different. Our farm calender says it's spring when the lambs begin to arrive. Emily is the first ewe to lamb this year. Spring has officially arrived. Echo is the proud father of these two early arrivals. One ram lamb and one ewe lamb. Both black.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Ram lambs always arrive with horn buds. You can see this little guys horn buds.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We may look like we are still wrapped in winter's grip here on the farm but deep down inside we know it is really spring. We have lambs!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In just a few short weeks more lambs will arrive, the snow will melt and the first signs of green will appear. There is nothing sweeter than lambs running through the green pastures having lamb races every afternoon. Hope spring arrives in your area soon.</div>

Winter is in full swing. We have had snow followed by melt and then rain and then blizzard. A real swing. More like a pendulum. The guineas have decided that there is just too much snow on the ground. They have become tree birds. They sit in the lilac tree waiting. Waiting for the warm summer days when they can roam the pasture looking for ticks, grasshoppers and those tasty seeds they are so fond of. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcfdtc7r7CT5S4E66mY99YU1NsDAPTj5ixqkQQA2PhvG19UtA-TmbQSThj3RlV-8USczty_NBA_xtlVT2gNh6GicebTsHBznRm0ZQ1tzH45YlWsE7t2UbIrRdtkCZtxx07M_VEpFgvzpk/s1600/IMG_0085.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcfdtc7r7CT5S4E66mY99YU1NsDAPTj5ixqkQQA2PhvG19UtA-TmbQSThj3RlV-8USczty_NBA_xtlVT2gNh6GicebTsHBznRm0ZQ1tzH45YlWsE7t2UbIrRdtkCZtxx07M_VEpFgvzpk/s400/IMG_0085.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There is another snow storm headed our way this weekend. Then the trails will be loaded with that fresh beautiful snow. We are waiting, not so patiently, to take the sled out again. I think Maine trails are some of the most beautiful. The best groomed that is a definite.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpDZSpXw8F_BNaUDPKJVWPE-4Aghyw-2H3XAMS585qir0WG4mgZD7EPVDVPGp8Zahw2X1SzEskg8UaET7PGfQJRXFYtVpTcvTCC75UhlofTAcguGiXSR8yjMnmSYk1fUQUis0qsEeTcxs/s1600/IMG_0116.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpDZSpXw8F_BNaUDPKJVWPE-4Aghyw-2H3XAMS585qir0WG4mgZD7EPVDVPGp8Zahw2X1SzEskg8UaET7PGfQJRXFYtVpTcvTCC75UhlofTAcguGiXSR8yjMnmSYk1fUQUis0qsEeTcxs/s400/IMG_0116.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For two old coots we do have fun.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhSQGYlsWc5rVQ_hzed7wV1jOrTFzdxUUdN14V6m1KAxUl73f6r_v2SFuJNlanbezHxPuqlgA63eNxuWrFxfwkgkJva7cDCoWdWfqFU9_vMKJ_A1Hjjlh3YEZ9vLw7TTrKyuvrTP1OF0s/s1600/IMG_0117.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhSQGYlsWc5rVQ_hzed7wV1jOrTFzdxUUdN14V6m1KAxUl73f6r_v2SFuJNlanbezHxPuqlgA63eNxuWrFxfwkgkJva7cDCoWdWfqFU9_vMKJ_A1Hjjlh3YEZ9vLw7TTrKyuvrTP1OF0s/s400/IMG_0117.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now we just have two little young coots to take along. We are looking for a youth helmet and snow gear for Jasmine. That way she can go with Ted or me on the sled. Noah is still too young for the snowmobile. He doesn't mind staying inside on those cold days. A nice dry diaper and a warm bottle. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVe2yHE6KIzuKpmH970sc4mMG3gK939Soa6kWoMYNrHF1MY2yH5mF2zORE-Cg2S_puckRc_8IVnxaQv4bJB-oYEWSpUoq6GprSx0bU4Zn4IgabAoJnF-Sow16klUoBFt40AfzXWzfudaQ/s1600/IMG_0163.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVe2yHE6KIzuKpmH970sc4mMG3gK939Soa6kWoMYNrHF1MY2yH5mF2zORE-Cg2S_puckRc_8IVnxaQv4bJB-oYEWSpUoq6GprSx0bU4Zn4IgabAoJnF-Sow16klUoBFt40AfzXWzfudaQ/s400/IMG_0163.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I can sit here and remember the warmth of summer, the green lush grass and the sounds of crickets. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYeFAAixwk9tkwIzXkPCZWJ9mLIKet9odFtEFG934A2p25TRj6XB7t5g8bBq2lW_Ys6twhmZRsQlCH4ZkwRDHfwnd0jXq6Z3l88x4IMdEse_LZ4Novst-ltOtw5tBQUH6xM4P7s3XJmeE/s1600/DSC_0011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYeFAAixwk9tkwIzXkPCZWJ9mLIKet9odFtEFG934A2p25TRj6XB7t5g8bBq2lW_Ys6twhmZRsQlCH4ZkwRDHfwnd0jXq6Z3l88x4IMdEse_LZ4Novst-ltOtw5tBQUH6xM4P7s3XJmeE/s400/DSC_0011.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then there is the ever present reminder of winter. We aren't bemoaning our winter. We are embracing it and enjoying it's drastic differences from the other seasons.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpeWifDWT7oGVpnPyhpgNg9Aq3VjVJFw7inmzeUKIBWC57_90AY3c_ImzibbonZWn-nH2_wBCMNzytRjcsQdKSRHmNL5ZMTWQJSw3nvGG2E5JQl7KdDbbXe6jXf979sbhFnrfdjZkUGI0/s1600/IMG_0081.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpeWifDWT7oGVpnPyhpgNg9Aq3VjVJFw7inmzeUKIBWC57_90AY3c_ImzibbonZWn-nH2_wBCMNzytRjcsQdKSRHmNL5ZMTWQJSw3nvGG2E5JQl7KdDbbXe6jXf979sbhFnrfdjZkUGI0/s400/IMG_0081.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
How is your landscape changing? Are you having a blizzard or nice sunny warm days? Are you tree sitting with the guineas? Happy Winter Ya'll!</div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Is it just us or does this happen to everyone? You think you are on your own and you start to make plans to go on trips, see a little bit of the world. Then, as soon as you put the deposit down, Bam! Your plans change. We were able to get a farm sitter for the week, deposit down on a cruise, dreaming of warm sunshine. Then we have two crumb snatchers with us. Not that we mind. We love these crumb snatchers. They are mighty cute. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is Noah. He is 14 months. Back to diapers, pack and plays and bottles.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Noah is Jasmine's little brother. She spends every summer with us so she knows her way around the farm. The animals don't intimidate her at all.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Emma and Lucy are right at home with her. They love having Jasmine here. After playing all day with the girls they all "dog pile" onto the couch and pass out.</div>

Gold Mine! I hit the jackpot. No, not the lottery. Although that would be very nice. I hit the Christmas tree goldmine. Christmas is done and gone for another year, New Years followed closely behind. Now is Christmas Tree drop off time. There are reports of a mad woman out there with a truck who stops by and robs these drop off sites. Truthfully I get some really strange looks. I stop at this same subdivision in Bangor every year. Look at all of these wonderful abandoned trees!</div>

This huge tree on the top of the pile will make the animals very happy for a few days. They eat all of the needles, strip and eat all of the bark and then chew the smaller stems. Nothing goes to waste.</div>

Evergreen also serves as a natural dewormer for sheep and goats. They still get grain and hay everyday needs. The trees get recycled, the animals are happy. It's a winter win for all.</div>

We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. Once again we had our celebration a couple of days early. It seems to work out better with our family so we can be together. I had the pleasure of working Christmas this year. It was really a good day that I got to spend with some really great nurses and doctors.</div>

During the snow showers yesterday Ted had to get out the new toy. This year we treated ourselves to a new snowmobile and all the gear to stay warm while out on cold winter days. I have a tendency to suffer from SAD during the winter. I am great for staying inside way too much. After much discussion we decided to go ahead and get the Yamaha Venture, 4 stroke, 2 up. So, the purchase of the snowmobile is a therapeutic investment of sorts. Well, that is what I keep telling myself. Sounds logical.</div>

You can barely make out some white shadows in the sheep barn. Fuzzy is looking out at the storm. They stay nice and cozy in their little barn while the weather is nasty out. No chickens out either. We open the doors to let in fresh air but the birds refuse to go out in the weather.</div>

I don't really blame them. Things on the farm are at a slow pace. We got a late start this year with taking the lambs to butcher. They will be going on Jan 4. At least that will lighten our feed load a bit. Hope everyone is safe and staying warm.</div>

One of my favorite blog friends is Tonya at <a href="http://flatcreekwoolandpottery.com/">Flat Creek Wool and Pottery</a>. She is a very talented artist. This year she had a giveaway on her blog. I won and did a happy dance. She was giving away a Rustic Wool Ornament. It came in the appropriately labeled box. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

She felted this round natural wool ornament from her own sheep's wool. How cute is this? I am one of those people who is so amazed with someones talent. I have none. I think that is why I am so in awe of someone who does. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had to wait until we got a new tree. The old one went kaput. I cheat, we have a fake tree which is already prelit. I think with all of the kids gone I just don't have the energy to get a real tree, string lights, decorate it and make sure it has water. I always forget the water and then the needles all fall of and it kinda looks like Charlie Browns Christmas tree. I digress..... this is the beautiful ornament on the tree.</div>

Last year I emailed Tonya a copy of our farm logo. She was able to recreate it in this lovely ornament. I was so pleased I gave all the kids one for their tree. Oh, and the secretary at the hospital. I wasn't sure if the mailperson would appreciate one so I did practice a small amount of restraint. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We were able to find a 6'5" tree that would actually allow an angel to top our tree. Our ceilings are a bit low. Folks were a bit shorter back in the day. The angel will have a Crick in her neck because she is sort of jambed up there. As I look at this picture she sort of lists to the side. Is that port or starboard?</div>

Thank you Tonya for such a special gift. I will treasure it and it will grace our tree for many years to come. Christmas is such a special time of year. Tonya can also make mugs with your farm logo. Feel free to follow the above link and contact her. Like I said she is one talented lady and has the cutest little son. Well, not so little anymore but he is still cute.</div>

We wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. We hope that you all are with family and friends this day enjoying a very special holiday. Today I will be working and spending the day with friends. We always bring a dish and have Thanksgiving dinner in the break room. We will have our Thanksgiving this weekend down at our daughter Sue's home. We find that it doesn't make a big difference what day it is observed. The most important thing is family and friends. </div>

Guineas on the porch. Why are there guineas on my porch. Where there are guineas needless to say there will be poop. They are strange little birds.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNvsd0nW0jr43jyxNxiHYcB_gEur3-6qJ1S6SlT86XATykLehcQtYOCiIAYWFYLAibFQpePuTX0pvTSrFT4AS0k9AHcdFTjF7AIiurwhImQV5A7Cpvb5b2NNoySN4G8luCa9_GfzU2b48/s1600/DSC_0001+(5).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNvsd0nW0jr43jyxNxiHYcB_gEur3-6qJ1S6SlT86XATykLehcQtYOCiIAYWFYLAibFQpePuTX0pvTSrFT4AS0k9AHcdFTjF7AIiurwhImQV5A7Cpvb5b2NNoySN4G8luCa9_GfzU2b48/s400/DSC_0001+(5).JPG" width="265" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This flock was hatched out this past spring in our incubator. They haven't gotten their red cheek flaps nor their cone head. Very noisy birds. Why do we have them? Slugs and bugs. Guineas are avid bug eaters. In summer the pasture will have thousands of grasshoppers. These little voracious eaters will walk the yard and pastures in side by side formation eating every bug in sight. They will loudly announce when you have a visitor. Actually, they will deafen you when you have a visitor. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguU63RBdBJxkMdLCDhs4d69EG5RSuXEG5AnOyH0B8O1-zAKpW-lxx7wvVKqdncZzCdXayw0ZGrmJcD_d4yCyMNVMsLMmVA_RW0vKWMAj4WDlE6jsFmY-CZwenQ7ifVd_p1gMFTzBWcdKw/s1600/DSC_0002+%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguU63RBdBJxkMdLCDhs4d69EG5RSuXEG5AnOyH0B8O1-zAKpW-lxx7wvVKqdncZzCdXayw0ZGrmJcD_d4yCyMNVMsLMmVA_RW0vKWMAj4WDlE6jsFmY-CZwenQ7ifVd_p1gMFTzBWcdKw/s400/DSC_0002+%25285%2529.JPG" width="265" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our guineas were raised in the same brooder as our chicks. The were moved into a pen with the pullets and now roost every night in the coop. Dark comes to us around 4:30pm. We leave a light on in the coop during the day. As dusk deepens all the birds gravitate to the light in the coop. We go in and feed every evening and close the coop and all its inhabitants up safely. We have noticed that the older guinea flock and the young guineas are starting to patrol together more often. We have one lone smaller guinea who seems to think that it is a chicken and stays with the young hens all day. It may have been a later hatch and is younger than the other birds. It even comes up to me like the young hens wanting an occasional pat. Not guinea like behavior at all.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have watched the guineas as a group chase a fox up the farm road while making the loudest chatter you can imagine. The fox looked appropriately frightened. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I enjoy these birds immensely. They are entertaining to watch. If we could only train them to stay in our yard. They are roamers. They will debug the neighbors yard across the street, the cemetery across the street and of course they will also debug the side of the road. Can you see where I'm going here? Occasionally we will hear a honk or two as the birds leisurely walk across the road. I am very thankful for those who stop. Once in a while someone will hit a bird or two. Another reason we put up the board fence with wire. Attempting to keep guineas home can be a challenge. Oh, they always come back home but they love to roam. If you are thinking of getting guineas I can give a few words of advice. Be aware that you will loose a few. It is sad and breaks my heart. They are not bird that can be locked in. They are independent. So that is one of the reasons I have guineas on my porch. Because they can.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our farmhouse is 160 years old and was a drafty old gal. This past spring we had an energy audit that said just that. We were able to have the whole house insulated. We hope to have a much warmer winter this year. We don't heat with fuel oil. We have a furnace in the basement but it is disconnected. We use this wood stove in the kitchen to heat as much as possible. There are gas logs in the living room to keep us comfortable in the front part of the house. Problem #1, the gas logs. They are efficient but propane is still expensive. Problem #2, the wood stove is in the kitchen and about 30ft from the rest of the house. How to solve this problem?</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had seen an add for a fan that helps circulate warm air to other rooms. Of course, I Googled it. That's what we do now, we Google it. Well, this is what I found. The Entreeair. A little fan that is mounted in a doorway and brings the warm air from the kitchen into the dinning room and then the living room. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSN6O3-9TRmEcl3Y_Lq8wizfT_tBezsvjCRnlQIfcL06jCLLiBrIioEZa0Oau2ZXpwg-C0zBF9xT3elfgNFDSIYw3IUtW1NqpyQGUra8ECMA4rCkPu2hSE_2-CfLZjiRZa3AZatbdtewU/s1600/DSC_0070+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSN6O3-9TRmEcl3Y_Lq8wizfT_tBezsvjCRnlQIfcL06jCLLiBrIioEZa0Oau2ZXpwg-C0zBF9xT3elfgNFDSIYw3IUtW1NqpyQGUra8ECMA4rCkPu2hSE_2-CfLZjiRZa3AZatbdtewU/s400/DSC_0070+(2).JPG" width="400" /></a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Prices vary as is expected. The cheapest price I found was at Home Depot at $19.97 and the most expensive was at Plow and Hearth for $39.00. Same fan and shipping was extra. I figured for around $20.00 it might be worth a try. So home it came. Mounting was easy. Two screws and a template. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They advertised it as quiet. Well, it's a fan. It makes noise. Not a propeller level of noise but it is noticeable. It has a 10ft cord so it is relative easy to reach an outlet. There is a roller clamp on the cord for easy on and off. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The big question is....does it work? </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
YES!!! For such a small fan it does of very good job of moving the air into the living room. The logs are on a thermostat and remain off most of the time. Well it was down to 19 last night so they did come on when needed. I used the enclosed clamps to make the cord more secure and to the side. Did you notice that the dog crate is gone? No? Well, Emma and Lucy are old enough and behave well enough that their crate was taken down and put into the basement. I felt a bit like we took the crib down because the kids were in big girl beds now. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, maybe beds is the wrong word. How about big girl sofa? I guess Emma got a little sleepy after reading the Thanksgiving issue of Food Magazine and took a nap.</div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What? It's November. How can Summertime come to Maine so soon? Well, Summertime is a doe from a neighboring farm and she needs a boyfriend. She came to our farm on Friday. She is a bit skittish and will not come within 15 feet of us. I don't think I have ever met a goat that didn't try to sit in my lap and check for treats. This girl has trust issues and won't let me near. She does seem like a sweet girl though.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA_dYElcdS6eURA18IWJWpnYqnORFQLvUvMkROMwXQELW32MNP4uUk4gwswzO9Q8vhPNwQsifOvJ2tdcmnxAsVx_Hg2CvRu0gx11nixum1y9-vNSjkMUZ81ap3iF3T7Fpxh7zzPTUbahY/s1600/DSC_0060.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA_dYElcdS6eURA18IWJWpnYqnORFQLvUvMkROMwXQELW32MNP4uUk4gwswzO9Q8vhPNwQsifOvJ2tdcmnxAsVx_Hg2CvRu0gx11nixum1y9-vNSjkMUZ81ap3iF3T7Fpxh7zzPTUbahY/s400/DSC_0060.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Teddy on the other hand is a big mush. A smelly mush at this time of year, but a mush none the less. He is the boyfriend in this love story. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhliwXZhPg9d1RgupgWX3c2LTL7UDZ8ngZOh2o_vp7dfp6P1r2jham2UL5fHFc4RQPcLbGEDbFTiN2-UT14bPi5T0Sw3W-YjsdG3Ym9ofuQPZz62nVnc86-6Q9HB0kG0JplHTifey9T_vc/s1600/DSC_0059+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhliwXZhPg9d1RgupgWX3c2LTL7UDZ8ngZOh2o_vp7dfp6P1r2jham2UL5fHFc4RQPcLbGEDbFTiN2-UT14bPi5T0Sw3W-YjsdG3Ym9ofuQPZz62nVnc86-6Q9HB0kG0JplHTifey9T_vc/s400/DSC_0059+(2).JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Summertime is not too sure of this arrangement. Teddy did a lot of chasing and Summertime did a lot of running away. At first. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Saturday dawned sunny and cool. Teddy and Summertime were ignoring each other. In goat terms, Teddy had done his job. Summertime went back home to her family. Edward and the little bucks came back into the bachelor field with Teddy. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Everyone has their winter coats on. We have to replace the back of the boys shelter. Evidently, Teddy decided to redecorate and push down the back walls. Silly goat. It will snow soon and the boys will be uncomfortable. It never ends.</div>

I made it back home from my trip to visit my mom in Florida. It took a bit of work and time but Delta came through. The Nor'easter after Sandy gave the mid-Atlantic states another wallop. LaGuardia was again at a snails pace. I got into Bangor at 2:30am. I called into work from LaGuardia. No sleep and ICU just aren't a good combination. The weather change was a bit of a shocker. Ted brought my jacket to the airport so I survived. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The weather has definitely took a turn for the colder here. I found this Woolly all curled up and barely moving. The grass has started to freeze nightly and the ground is beginning to get hard.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Poor little guy. It is kind of sad but they will be back with a vengeance next fall letting us know whether our winter will be aggressive or light. This year they were everywhere. They were making mad dashes, for a caterpillar that is, across the roads this fall. So I guess we know what to expect. Heavy snows and cold temps. Yehaw! I will explain the yehaw in a later post. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We now have the seasonal event of adding the heaters to the tanks. Yes, the electric meter begins to whirl. Even Emma and Lucy's dog bowl has a heater. The barn cats have to get fresh water too. It was kind of fun removing the ice sheet and breaking it up. Okay, I still have a bit of kid in me. I'm weird too, I take pictures of it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We bought heavy duty extension cords because our breakers kept tripping and going off last winter. We learned that the snow would hit the connector where the extension cord plugged into the heater and trip the breaker. Last winter we covered the connections with electrical tape. It worked somewhat. There were still a couple of mornings the troughs were frozen. Well there is a very special fix for this. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Yep, liquid tape. It can be found in the electrical department, of course, and comes in different colors. We painted the connections with the tape and it dries quickly. It smells like the old airplane glue from my childhood. You know the glue that were weren't suppose to use in small spaces because it gave you a wicked headache and kind of woozy. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We couldn't leave the cords on the ground. The goats would have a fun time pulling them apart and getting all wrapped up. That is just what goats do. It's in their nature.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfC7dXRT4CHDlLTMXXRcs-v6VQPd1av9dKdY-cI5LBiet0fpMnbinCDLnDr45G4D7G8PbSdmZlrVjI0x9p_Vb014Kl969pgXXBPd5yybeqvmfXVWn0orXnzL82EUBUpBLxDZVAmXJasEs/s1600/DSC_0074+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfC7dXRT4CHDlLTMXXRcs-v6VQPd1av9dKdY-cI5LBiet0fpMnbinCDLnDr45G4D7G8PbSdmZlrVjI0x9p_Vb014Kl969pgXXBPd5yybeqvmfXVWn0orXnzL82EUBUpBLxDZVAmXJasEs/s400/DSC_0074+%25282%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then we ran the cords across the top of the fence and secured with zip ties. Only time will tell if this system works. We will find out during a good snowy Nor'easter. That is just the way life is. It will never happen when the weather is sunny and dry.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We plan on running electric and water hydrants to the troughs in the future. You know, the future when we have the money to rehab the barn and do these improvements that will make life easier.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Emma and Lucy seem to absolutely love the cold weather. They spend their days wrestling and running around the yard. Then inside to sleep in the rays of sunshine in front of the nice warm wood stove.</div>

Hi I'm Abbey Cat and I love window sitting. I'm not a big outside cat. Oh, I visit a couple of times in the summer but that is about it. However, when I do venture out those guineas start a ruckus every time they see me. So I just sit here and dream of guinea tidbits and guinea kibble. Yes, guineas do have their place, just like me, window sitting in the sunshine.</div>

Every goat does need a clean stall. Winter is on it's way and the goats are still spending a lot of time outside. Their stall is big enough for all of the girls to sleep in their pods. Mother, daughter and even granddaughters sleep close and snuggle. I love going out at night with a flashlight and checking on the animals. They are all sleepy eyed and toasty even in winter. We learned several years ago that the animals will stay warm if they are protected from wind and kept dry. They even do better if they have good ventilation. We even quit closing their door at night. They can go outside at any time. No respiratory problems with good air exchange. When I was a kid growing up in Florida we bought shavings by the truckload for our barn. I can't find them that way in Maine so we pick up bundles from Tractor Supply. They smell so wonderful.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibTNwUYmFbSfqpEGCwgdcfymqbTyQH8N9OEsTkL3vKn6ZjtEWwSxas-uP6lJzIMdTNsTm36lSHjd3bQ19qNzvwg3pQ5B7V4NY4Arcg6Fn2dJnC4qE70hqpaUSXDmsAJQYOWHobBdhQgTo/s1600/DSC_0002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibTNwUYmFbSfqpEGCwgdcfymqbTyQH8N9OEsTkL3vKn6ZjtEWwSxas-uP6lJzIMdTNsTm36lSHjd3bQ19qNzvwg3pQ5B7V4NY4Arcg6Fn2dJnC4qE70hqpaUSXDmsAJQYOWHobBdhQgTo/s400/DSC_0002.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We cleaned the old bedding out and loaded it into the tractor bucket. It was back breaking work but it went quickly. After cleaning the stall out last year we learned a very important lesson. We feed the goats their hay outside year round. The hay makes the shavings very difficult to remove. Almost impossible. Now the girls are required to go out into the fresh air air and eat. Better for them and us.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAuftTPohzSUUrCZzpk_C9EbmZWZzi-MXBKBEcZVxqmFUI7bY8cuZdCUbgJDeUkrhRsvNOvwngbfPWLaSMuPCGA16gO1R2EEYwr-fLDnrBUJWNzcT2EE0Ia7acNDnJ29cu18sWE3Odmo0/s1600/DSC_0001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAuftTPohzSUUrCZzpk_C9EbmZWZzi-MXBKBEcZVxqmFUI7bY8cuZdCUbgJDeUkrhRsvNOvwngbfPWLaSMuPCGA16gO1R2EEYwr-fLDnrBUJWNzcT2EE0Ia7acNDnJ29cu18sWE3Odmo0/s400/DSC_0001.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The old bedding was at least a 1 1/2 feet deep. After the big dig I then spread a good 20lbs of diameticious earth to kill any mites that might get a foothold. We have never had problems with mites while keeping with this practice. We do have free range chickens and no problems so far. While looking at these pictures I see how horrible the barn looks. It has good bones. We are waiting until after the tractor is paid off (a couple of years yet) to rehab the barn. It has some rotten sills that need replacing and a whole face lift. I have a view in my minds eye of what it will look like when it is completed. Beautiful one day!The house had to come first. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSthBwZgOaKyy6cu1XqyWM0eGYZNw2RV_M3SBwGOiTbqLQfeY52g1YFFojkG4oxes-LwMxq6s23_SqJjBfUNX3GaUny9QenS6BfFyu6h9qllIRV92HNUbw22DZpCQUm0EsAlwnNNg4sY0/s1600/DSC_0003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSthBwZgOaKyy6cu1XqyWM0eGYZNw2RV_M3SBwGOiTbqLQfeY52g1YFFojkG4oxes-LwMxq6s23_SqJjBfUNX3GaUny9QenS6BfFyu6h9qllIRV92HNUbw22DZpCQUm0EsAlwnNNg4sY0/s400/DSC_0003.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We have cob webs that need to be blown down. The barn has many orb weavers and they help to keep the flies down in summer. So we never pull down the webs or kill any spiders. The goats don't mind at all. It looks kind of like Halloween decorations. Spooky.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz8TSUvD3TkslSVBfXmef1X0uXUUg_1ZAcetcETF7ZpLs1qZjXz5tvh9ZpFSHQZ35c6fs82Y07aiphMkiY1zmjzCAJIePD6j3WRaajXy8I_u-ujDi-_-0E8hCkiVRWRbCp-ZZoBM29xJE/s1600/DSC_0005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz8TSUvD3TkslSVBfXmef1X0uXUUg_1ZAcetcETF7ZpLs1qZjXz5tvh9ZpFSHQZ35c6fs82Y07aiphMkiY1zmjzCAJIePD6j3WRaajXy8I_u-ujDi-_-0E8hCkiVRWRbCp-ZZoBM29xJE/s400/DSC_0005.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We added about 10 bales of shavings. All nice and toasty. As the winter progresses we will add additional bales. The goats urine and goat berries will break down the shavings and produce a warmth in the coldest winter months as it packs. New shavings are added for freshness and the process continues.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The goats had a fresh bale of hay and were not even interested in coming in and giving their comment. When asked they looked at me and went right back to eating. Typical goat behavior. Stomach first!</div>

The ewes and Fuzzy all out in the hayfield grazing on the leftovers. We put the ewes in the upper pasture and let the rams and ram lambs out to enjoy the field too. Everyone gets to enjoy the green grass until winter comes. Summer is busy and noisy. Fall everything seems to slow down a bit. No more sounds of tractors cutting hay and baling. Winter brings peace, quiet and the sound of snow flakes lightly touching the ground. We are enjoying every minute of this season and looking forward to the next.</div>

Sunday was a day of rest and this was needed to get ready for the laborious task of laundry. A pot of beans could be put on in the morning and let simmer all day while you were busy with laundry. Luckily today we are blessed with washers and dryers. One of the old ways that I personally am glad that is gone. I wanted to share this delicious recipe for a hearty stew of sorts as the days turn cooler.<br />
<br />
<div align="center">
New Orleans Red Beans and Rice</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
1 pound of dried red beans (cover with water and soak overnight)</div>
<div align="center">
1/2 pound of thick bacon</div>
<div align="center">
1 package of andouille sausage</div>
<div align="center">
1 pound ham</div>
<div align="center">
1 large onion, chopped</div>
<div align="center">
1 large bell pepper, chopped</div>
<div align="center">
3 stalks of celery, chopped</div>
<div align="center">
2 cloves garlic, minced</div>
<div align="center">
1/4-1/2 tsp cayenne pepper, to taste, if you like it hot add more</div>
<div align="center">
black pepper to taste</div>
<div align="center">
1 tsp dried basil</div>
<div align="center">
2 bay leaves</div>
<div align="center">
2 quarts chicken broth</div>
<div align="center">
1/2 Tbl canola oil</div>
<div align="center">
Hot white rice</div>
<div align="center">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Chop the bacon and cook in a large pot. I like to use hickory smoked thick bacon. The flavor is really worth it.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Chop celery, onion and bell pepper. This pepper was so big that I only had to use half and I put the rest in a baggie in the freezer for later use.</div>

I am amazed that I found Andouille sausage in Maine. If you can't find it, you can use Kelbasa. I just can't imagine this but the recipe says you can. This spicy sausage is usually made in Cajun country however, mine came from New Hampshire. It has a smoked, spicy flavor.</div>

The liquid will thicken and the color will change to a nice warm brown. Serve over white rice. It is even better the next day when the flavors have time to meld. Leftovers can be frozen for a quick meal on a cold night. </div>

Hope you try and enjoy this meal. We love it! Happy Wash Day.</div>

Summertime brings fresh veggies at the farmers market. We tried an organic co-op last summer but that really fell short of our expectations. The price was a bit steep and the return was way less than I expected for my money. I had planned on going straight through to fall with this co-op. However, I can only eat so much salad. I expected more zucchini, summer squash, beans, beets, etc... I got lettuce and more lettuce. 1 zucchini. What can you do with only one small zucchini? This summer we hit the farmers markets in the area. We had an abundance of squash, lettuce, green onions, beets. Oh, how we love beets and greens. Fall has arrived and now the farms in our areas are putting out butternut, acorn, turban and hubbard squash. Oh the possibilities. Soups, baked, and pies. Yum....</div>

Tonight it is baked acorn squash. Ted likes his sweet, baked with butter and sugar. I like mine savory, baked with butter and a little salt. Simple but good. The chickens enjoy the seeds.</div>

How do you like your squash? What recipes do you go back to winter after winter? We are working on cleaning out the basement once the fences get finished. Did I mention we are still working on fences? No? Pictures to follow. Anyhow, I want to head back to Thunder Road Farm in Corinna, ME and pick up a winter supple of squash to store "down cellar". What we don't eat the goats, sheep and chickens will. I think they will make splendid treats. Out to work on fences. <br />
