Our chickens, like other chickens in the country are starting to lay again. They have had a nice little vacation from laying. They have been on hiatus for the winter months now. Our days have begun to lengthen, they hens are outside more and we don't have much snow. The girls have been going out into the pasture with the sheep, scratching around in the exposed grass. We even have mud for them to play in. This evening we cam across a rather small egg. We don't have young hens. Ours are all two years old so there is no reason for these small eggs. Well, maybe not hen eggs. There is no other explanation besides....the guineas have started to lay.
We had 17 eggs tonight. This little egg fit in the basket with all the other hen fruit. Tiny in comparison.
Do you think anyone will notice the small egg? Should we give 2 for 1?
I guess we will just keep these for ourselves. Thank you hens and guineas. We now have eggs. Breakfast is open.
Blogger is crazy tonight. I don't know what happened. It is blocking all of my text into one or two giant blocks and wont let me change it. This is anoying. I don't like it at all. Hmmm....is this why others are going to different formats? Much love and prayers from Mainely Ewes Farm.

I haven't run across any of our guinea eggs. Have you eaten one? Do they taste different?
I do not have a cream separator, and yes, I need one. Sure wish I could borrow one. I sure can't afford any of these, especially when I've never tried making butter yet.

Oh yay for fresh eggs. My girls have laid really well all winter.
I just read about poor Bella's nose. Last year I bought 2 packages of catnip at Wal-mart and it grew really nice, but my cat didn't care about it at all. And turns out I was allergic too it. Every time I'd pick some, I'd break out in a horrible burning rash. Yeah, you guessed it...it wasn't catnip, they packaged it wrong and it was stinging nettles. I had an entire garden patch of stinging freaking nettles. Horrible stuff. Last time I buy seeds from Wal-Mart.
So happy that spring is coming, love the mud!

RE: blogger - pretty much - I won't pay to blog so I'm kinda stuck but it frustrates me to plan how something will look and then it looks all whonkey when I hit publish. Hooray about the eggs - so comforting to have plenty of cackleberries in the fridge!

Luckily we've started buying our eggs locally again. That'll have to do for now.
I love comparing the eggs. lol I'm glad I'm not the only one.
Our (7) chickens kept laying all winter. Their production went from 6-7 a day to 1-3 a day, though. Just enough to keep me from needing to buy eggs. That makes me happy. ;-)
And I've been using Windows Live Writer for blog posts. It's a thousand times easier than using blogger. It came on my new laptop, but I'm pretty sure you can get it for free on Windows website. (After you go through set up, it publishes directly to blogger for you).

Wow! Glad someone is getting a lot of eggs. Our hens are 2 and 3 years old and have slowed down egg production.
