I had a very wonderful visit from my Mom. It seems like everything stood still on the farm. She came up from Florida and spent a whole week on the farm. Of course I put her to work immediately. I wanted her to teach me how to make a few things that I remembered from childhood. My mom is a great cook. She loves to make up recipes. Sometimes she makes a wonderful cake and cannot reproduce it a second time. She is wonderful and finds humor in this. First off, I wanted chicken-n-dumplins. Not Chicken and Dumplings. We don’t have those in the south. She laughed because she hasn’t made them in a really long time. We took a couple of our roosters out of the freezer. They went to freezer camp last spring. I have noticed that there is a huge color difference from farm raised chickens and store bought chickens. Ours are yellow naturally and they make a rich, thick broth.
Next she mixed plain flour and our goat milk together to just the right texture.
Then she mashed out the mixture to just the right thickness.
After this was done, she gently floated the dumplins into the broth. I wish I had thought to take a picture of the finished product. Thing is, I was eating myself into true heaven.
The next day I put her to work making soap. She loves the soap and got to see it from start to finish.
She made a whole batch of Naked to take back to Florida with her.
I didn’t make her work the whole time. We did get to enjoy the beauties of the farm. The lilacs were in bloom.
The farm was wrapped in its summer greenery.
We made biscuits, fudge, a lime cake and much more. I am still full. It was such a good visit. The weather cooperated. It was cool and sunny. Great weather and great company. Thanks Mom
