Braided Rug Day 2

We have lights! Yes, we went to WalMart and picked up this 4 light system. It really lightens up the craft room. I think Ted thinks it's very bright. He is working on his tan here. Thank you for putting it up Ted.
It was back to work tearing the remaining strips. I know some of you think 4inch strips are too much. I will try this and if it is too difficult to work with I will decrease the size. Marge, the lady in the video, has been making rugs for many years and they are beautiful. They are heavy and don't slide. I will give it a try. Who knows, I may have fingers drop off and then I may really like the rugs. The proof is in the rug, sort of.
The black and white check wool was woven so I had to cut it. Thank goodness I have lines to go by. I cut each side to make sure the cloth was even and then cut the 4inch strips.
I did have help. Lucy wanted to help with the wool. What a sweet girl.
Then Oreo and Mouse had to come see what I was doing in the craft room at night. I think they liked the new lighting too.
All the wool has been cut and torn into strips, labeled and ready to coil.
Now I have to coil all of these into these 1 inch wide strips. How is that done?
They are spritzed with water, folded and folded again and then coiled up. Over and over and over and over until....
You have stacks of these. Nicely wound spools of wool to begin plating into a rug. I have so much work to do. I will be a coiling fool.
It doesn't look like a rug yet. It may be a while before it even resembles a rug in any shape or form. I am back to work for two days and then I have a few off. We are expecting snow this weekend so what a great way to spend a snowy day. Coiling wool is at the top of my list. How about you? I made a big pot of beef stew and rice for supper with rolls. Mmmmm.... Winter comfort food. Take care and keep warm. Enjoy your snow Peggy. I know you love it, we do too.
Much Love and Prayers from Mainely Ewes Farm.

The lights are great - tell Ted to use sunblock if those lights are that bright. I am loving this project - dang it sounds great.

Thanks Kelly! I sure hope we get a nice amount of snow. I am thinking about digging out some of my material and having a go at rug making. But then again I have several projects I should really finish first. But whatever I sure will be watching your blog to see how yours goes. Have a good two days at work.

This is such a great project. I had a braided run in my room as a kid, and I still miss it. I know they are still using it at the church where my mom donated it....and that's been a good long time of use. We have plenty of Ted's in our family: I get a kick out of seeing the name :).

ah ha ha! Your first paragraph had me in stitches... :-) You're FUNNY!
Love your craft room and the new lighting - and my animals could all use a lesson from yours apparently on being helpful! :-)

The lights/fixture are pretty too, do they throw off warm heat Ted?

You got me interested in this braided-rug deal, I'm ready for Part 3.
